NELFUND has received about 1.7 million applications and processed approximately 1.5 million, participation from the South-East remains below expectations.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has expressed concern over the low number of student loan applications from Nigeria's South-East region, urging eligible students to take advantage of the Federal Government's interest-free education loan scheme.
Sawyerr made the appeal on Friday during the Renewed Hope Students' Engagement and Digital Acceleration Programme (DAP) for the South-East Zone held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, where officials of the Federal Government encouraged students to embrace digital skills while selected beneficiaries received laptop computers to support learning and innovation.
According to Sawyerr, although NELFUND has received about 1.7 million applications and processed approximately 1.5 million, participation from the South-East remains below expectations.
"We have received to date 1.7 million applications, and we've disbursed cumulatively to 1.5 million Nigerian students. There's a lot of students in 24 months. We are delighted, we are happy, but we need more from the Southeast," he said.
