As we enter the height of Hong Kong summer, ducking into a pleasantly air-conditioned cafe to enjoy a cold brew or two continues to be one of our favourite ways to beat the heat. This month, the options for new places to try are plentiful, with new branches of existing favourites as well as newcomers in neighbourhoods including Sai Kung, Tin Hau, Causeway Bay and Sham Shui Po.1. Islet Coffee LabThe third location of Islet Coffee Lab is its first on the Kowloon side. To celebrate, the cafe is promoting its new house blend inspired by the Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood.Named Chaotic Honey, it is a mix of Colombian and Ethiopian beans with cupping notes of peach, white grapes and white flowers – just the thing to cut through the muggy weather as of late. While it is still in soft-opening mode, early visitors are already raving about the single-origin drip coffee, their banana bread topped with caramelised banana, and its relaxed, vinyl-record atmosphere. There are also new signature drinks inspired by classic films such as American Psycho (2000) and Amelie (2001).
