July 31 (UPI) -- A military fighter jet crashed near Miramar Marine Corps Air Base in San Diego on Friday morning, officials said.

The pilot -- assigned to 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 11 -- ejected from the F-35B and was sent to a medical facility for evaluation, KUSI-TV in San Diego reported.

"The pilot ejected and has been recovered," a spokesperson for the base told KGTV-TV in San Diego. "More information will be made available shortly."
