Gianni Infantino, the boss of world football’s governing body Fifa, is coming under increasing pressure after the North American and Asian confederations both joined UEFA’s revolt against his plan to sell a minority stake in the World Cup to private investors.
The crisis has left Mr Infantino facing the gravest crisis of his decade-long Fifa presidency.
He had been expected to be re-elected next March unopposed, but now European delegates are encouraging rival candidates to challenge him.
