First responders are at the scene of an accident involving an F-35 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.According to a spokesperson for the installation, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Friday, and the circumstances are still under investigation.“Emergency personnel are responding to that aircraft mishap that occurred on our flight line at approximately 10 a.m.,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “It was an F-35 assigned to Third Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 11. A spokesperson later provided an update and said the pilot was safely ejected from the aircraft and has been recovered, adding that it was a “Class A mishap involving a Marine Corps F-35B.” A Class A mishap is the most severe classification of accident in military terms.Miramar is one of the Marine Corps’s major aviation installations and is home to multiple aircraft units under the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
