ATLANTA — As the MLB trade deadline nears, the Atlanta Braves’ approach should be simple: add starting pitching to bolster their chances to make a deep run in the postseason and a bat or two that can add the extra thump needed in the lineup.Every year, the deadline is prime time for fans to make their own trade proposals, some that are realistic, others that really make you think about the outcome for both sides and others that are completely out of reach.We took to X to get everyone’s arm chair GM proposals. Below are six that caught our attention as being worthy of further analysis. I’ve offered my thoughts on each deal and asked a talent evaluator with an MLB club who is being granted anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about potential trades publicly to give his expert opinion. Let’s have some fun!Trade proposal: Braves receive LHP Reid Detmers and OF Jo Adell from the Angels in exchange for RHP JR Ritchie, SS Alex Lodise, LHP Hayden Harris and OF Luis Guanipa — @erinnicole17Evaluator: Good concept. Solid offer from Atlanta but Angels may want a little more back. A controllable Detmers costs a big price tag and Adell fits their outfield needs and brings home run slug. Ritchie is an experienced young arm that fits in the rotation right away. Angels would really be banking on Lodise and Guanipa to be contributors down the road. Harris has options and is left-handed but is toward the bottom of Atlanta’s 40-man roster.Cano: The return for the Braves is ideal here. Adell has a .940 OPS against left-handed pitching with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. The Braves as a whole have .697 OPS versus left-handers, so Adell would be a great addition. The real prize here, however, is Detmers, who is having a career-year and is under control until 2029. Going off our evaluator’s opinion on Angels maybe wanting more, perhaps swapping out Harris with Ethan Bagwell could seal the deal since Bagwell has more projection.
