Kolkata: Two more persons were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, the PA of the West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The duo were remanded to CBI custody for seven days by a special CBI court in Kolkata on Friday evening.Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkar, the two key suspects in the plot to assassinate Adhikari's close aide Chandranath Rath, uncovering potential links to the functionary of a rival political party in the state.Also Read: CBI files charge sheet against 13 accused in NEET-UG 2026 paper leak caseThe accused--two brothers identified as Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkarwere associates who were working with the deceased.The officials alleged that the probe showed that Sagar Sonkar maintained regular contact with the office of a rival political party while working with Rath.Rath was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants as he was traveling in a car near Madhyamgram in the North 24 Parganas district on May 6.Rath was murdered at Madhyamgram on May 6 this year, only two days after West Bengal Assembly elections results were declared. BJP ousted the 15-year-old Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in the state from 2011 to 2026.A former Indian Air Force (IAF), Rath had been serving as Adhikari and became Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.
