His smash-hit Rein Me In, featuring Olivia Dean, has topped the charts for 19 weeks, breaking a record set in 1953.‌It's surpassed I Believe by Frankie Laine, released in 1953, when Sir Winston Churchill was still the Prime Minister. But Rein Me In, released in June last year, now holds the title, having spent 19 weeks at the top of the charts. Sam, 32, from North Shields, said he was completely lost for words after being handed his record-breaking award by the Official Charts Company.‌The musician said: "Completely lost for words. Thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is. In the hours leading up to the charts locking in, Fender came up with a plan and issued a plea to his fans to help him break the record.‌By encouraging fans to download the track for just 59p, 19 fans who purchased the song before 23:59 on Thursday were in with the chance of winning an Official Charts Fan award with their name on. While 19 more fans in second place will be in with the chance of winning a Rein Me In T-shirt.Rein Me In was originally written by Sam for his third record, People Watching, before being reimagined as a pop-rock ballad.
