MANILA, Philippines — The non-bailable malversation complaint against CWS party-list Rep. Edwin Gardiola worth over P879 million has reached the preliminary investigation stage, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Friday.
The preliminary investigation stage is just one step away from filing formal charges before the Sandiganbayan.
This stage was reached after the special panel of investigators from the Ombudsman recommended the filing of charges against Gardiola and several others.
In a 157-page investigation report, investigators concluded that Gardiola, together with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), private contractors, and members of the Commission on Audit (COA) team assigned to the district allegedly “conspired to divert public funds intended for flood-control projects for private gain.”
