Division one of the Download the Raceday Ready App Handicap was a lowly Class 6 race over 7f contested by 12 runners.‌But punters at the track only wanted to back one horse, the Jennie Candlish-trained Iconic Times. In four runs since joining the stable his nearest finish had been sixth over a mile at Southwell in April. He had finished tenth on his previous start when he went off a 28-1 chance.‌This time he opened at odds of 3-1 and was returned the 2-1 favourite after hitting the front a furlong out and running out the length winner. Local layer Barry Pinnington, who trades as Pinno, was reporting updates from the track on social media.‌His first post said: “Massive gamble on course here @WolvesRaces. Fortunes for Iconic Times 25k plus.”After the race he said: “8 books in the ring, I paid out 8k, others paid out a lot more.”He added: “First bet in my book was a 1000 at 7/1. My colleagues were laying thousands at 5/2 just before the off. I’m amazed there were enough readies in the ring to pay out‌“Such a shame there is no proper betting or show reports from the ring these days. The post reports that on the 7th race at Wolves the winner opened 3/1 touched 10/3 returned 2/1. The truth is it opened 7/1 on the track and good money was laid. Bring back the on course reporters.”John Hutchinson from BDC Racing told the Racing Post, "It was a monumental gamble and quite an expensive night.‌"Never before have I seen every bookmaker run out of cash on a racecourse, but they did last night. That's how bad it was."The stewards held an inquiry into the winner who “appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Wolverhampton on 1 June 2026 where the gelding finished tenth of 12 runners, beaten by 7 lengths.”The report said: “Jennie Candlish’s representative’s explanation that ICONIC TIMES had benefitted from the reapplication of cheekpieces, was noted.
