Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd expects to complete its $11.75 billion acquisition of US-based Organon in the fourth quarter of financial year 2027, top management with the drugmaker said, after the company shared its financial performance for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, including a 27 per cent growth in net profit at ₹2,894 crore.The company is filing for regulatory approvals in various markets and has recently received Organon shareholder approval, Sun Pharma Founder and Executive Chairman Dilip Shanghvi told analysts. He said the company expected to complete the transaction in Q4 FY27, and an integration team was in place to ensure “Day 1 preparedness.” For the quarter under review, Sun Pharma posted a 10 per cent growth in its revenue from operations at ₹15,183 crore.Strong momentumKirti Ganorkar, Sun Pharma Managing Director, said that performance this quarter was driven by “strong momentum in India as well as Innovative Medicines, which delivered robust growth across the US and international regions. Recent semaglutide approvals in India, Brazil and South Africa underscore our capabilities in developing complex peptide products for patients globally. Organon shareholders have approved the proposed acquisition by Sun, which is on track to close in early 2027.”Sun’s domestic formulation (finished medicine form) sales in India stood at ₹5,474 crore, registering a growth of 16 per cent and accounting for 36.1 per cent of total consolidated sales.In the US, formulation sales at $427 million was lower by 9.7 per cent – “but innovative medicines continued to grow, partially offsetting the decline in generics business,” the company management said. US sales accounted for approximately 26.6 percent of total consolidated sales. Its emerging markets formulations sales stood at $311 million, up by 4.2 per cent and accounting for 19.4 per cent of total consolidated sales.The company recently received approval to sell its semaglutide in South Africa and Brazil, and Ganorkar said, adding that their generic version of the brand held the second position among the generics that launched in India, after the patent expired on semaglutide in India and other markets, late March.Published on July 31, 2026
