The State Department announced that 250,000 more copies of the limited-edition “Patriot Passport” featuring President Donald Trump‘s face would be available to Americans across the country.The Trump administration initially launched a smaller quantity of the passports limited to the Capital Beltway area, but announced the expansion of the program on Thursday. The State Department cited the “extraordinary public interest” in the passport in its decision to expand its availability beyond just Washington, D.C.“Since its release in celebration of 250 years of American independence, the commemorative passport has generated extraordinary public interest,” the State Department said in a statement. “The Department of State is responding by expanding access so Americans across the country can obtain this unique and special document.”
The agency is hosting “application events,” during which citizens can apply for the limited-edition passport, in 25 cities across the country. The application events will take place from Aug. 8 through Sept. 26 in cities like Dallas, San Diego, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia.The limited-edition passports were created to honor the country’s 250th anniversary of independence, which has been celebrated throughout 2026.The design, first unveiled by Trump on Truth Social in late June, features an image of Trump’s official presidential portrait, in which he stands behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, his fists on the table. It is the latest way the president has left his mark on Washington, D.C., with his own image, in addition to several banners with his portrait placed on government buildings throughout his term.DOWNTOWN DC PREPARES FOR FREEDOM 250 GRAND PRIX: WHAT TO KNOWAs president during the country’s semiquincentennial, Trump has put his own spin on much of the celebrations. With the Trump administration also overseeing the Freedom 250 organization, which is separate from the bipartisan America250 organization, Trump created several events and programs to add to the celebration calendar this year.On June 14, coinciding with Trump’s birthday, Freedom 250 hosted a UFC cage match on the White House lawn. The organization is also preparing for an IndyCar Grand Prix in D.C. in late August.
