A question paper for an Odisha postgraduate medical examination was shared on social media allegedly while the test was underway, prompting the Odisha University of Health Sciences to order an internal inquiry, PTI reported on Friday.The photos of the paper were shared on WhatsApp allegedly during the general surgery theory examination for the 2023-’26 batch on Monday.A preliminary inquiry suggested that the question paper was shared by someone at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur minutes after it was distributed to students, The Indian Express quoted an unidentified official as saying. The matter came to light when a student of a private medical college in Bhubaneswar, who allegedly had the photos, informed the authorities.Following the incident, Odisha University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Manas Ranjan Sahoo convened a virtual meeting with principals of the medical colleges where the examinations were held, The Times of India reported.MKCG Medical College Principal Harekrushna Dalai said that the vice chancellor directed the institutes to tighten security arrangements for the remaining examinations.Dalai also stated that the incident cannot be described as a paper leak.“Had the question paper come out before it reached the students, we could have termed it a leak,” The Times of India quoted the principal as saying. “But in this case, the question paper came out from the exam hall.”The theory examinations batch began on July 21. Two papers are scheduled to be held on August 1 and August 5. More than 150 students are appearing for the examinations at the Behrampur college.This came three days before Parliament cleared a bill to amend a law against exam paper leaks following nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The amendments provide for stricter punishments, a two-month investigation deadline and a Special Task Force to probe serious examination-related offences.Edited by Nachiket Deuskar.
