He marked the beginning of 2026 with the release of new Marvel TV series Wonder Man on Disney+.‌Then in April, he starred in Netflix's latest take on the A.J. Quinnell novel Man On Fire. Each series was mostly well received by fans and tipped to return for a second season. However, it has now been confirmed that Marvel has cancelled Wonder Man, despite some claiming it was the company's best outing on the small screen. For those that aren't aware, the series follows Hollywood actor Simon Williams who is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man.Yahya starred opposite Sir Ben Kingsley who reprised his beloved MCU character of Trevor Slattery. Unfortunately, head writer Andrew Guest confirmed reports the show will not return.‌On his social media account he shared an image of the original comic version of Wonder Man with the phrase 'dead again' behind him. He added in the caption: "Marvel has cancelled Wonder Man. So proud of the show we made. So grateful to have worked with Destin Daniel and Yahya and Sir Ben Kingsley. Want to thank everyone who watched and all the critics who supported us. Particularly Andy Greenwald, Sepin Wall, Indie Wire and LA Times."A second season was reportedly greenlit back in March but now it seems that Marvel has changed its mind. It is not yet known whether or not the characters and actors who played them in the series, could return in other MCU projects in the future.‌Yahya shared his own heartfelt statement to fans following the news. He said: "Word just dropped that Wonder Man won't be coming back for season 2. And if you don't know, now you know! That's life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other."Admitting that the fan response clearly meant something to him, he confessed: "The show worked. And that's my favourite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the YouTube reactors (because I watched along with y'all this time) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day. So thinking of you all today. I'm glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching. . . And . . . uhh . . . See you at the EMMYS."‌Fans are struggling to understand the cancellation, as the series was one of Marvel's biggest critical hits for TV. It managed to earn itself an impressive 91% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes. Not only that but Yahya was nominated for an Emmy for his performance with the ceremony set for September. Many have rushed to offer their support and praise for how the actor has responded to the news. One said: "Yahya just took an L with more class than most people take a W. Actually cold-blooded cancellation." Another added: "See you at the Emmys is such a cold way to sign off after getting your show unfairly axed."Article continues belowSomeone else requested: "Please let him continue in the MCU with other movies and appearances at least.
