Westlake announced the appointment of Shen Yang on July 21, Guangming Daily reported. She joins the Hangzhou university's school of medicine as a teaching-track professor after more than 16 years of clinical practice in the U.S.
Her most recent post was at Huntington Health in Pasadena, California, where she is listed in medical directories as Yang Shen.
She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, according to Guangming Daily.
Los Angeles Magazine named her among its Top Doctors in endocrinology for several consecutive years, in a countywide peer survey of physicians.
Shen graduated from Fudan University's sociology department in Shanghai in 1997, drawn to community work theory. She then moved to the U.S., earning master's degrees in sociology and biostatistics at the State University of New York at Albany.
