The agency's Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, made the clarification during an interview on Thursday, saying earlier reports by some media organisations had overstated the number of fatalities.

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has corrected the death toll from last week's devastating rainstorm in Bichi Local Government Area, confirming that five people lost their lives in the disaster that destroyed homes and property worth millions of naira.

The agency's Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, made the clarification during an interview on Thursday, saying earlier reports by some media organisations had overstated the number of fatalities.

According to him, "Five persons lost their lives in Bichi as a result of the rainstorm, not eight as erroneously reported by some media outlets."

Kubarachi explained that the casualty figure was confirmed only after officials of the agency visited the affected communities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the disaster.
