Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is betting big on the growing fascination for mid-size bikes among young riders who prefer powerful machines with rider-focused features and distinctive designs.Anupam Thareja, Co-Founder of Classic Legends, the company behind the revival of iconic motorcycle brands, said nearly 80 per cent of the company’s sales come from customers below the age of 35. “Youngsters simply love the design. They are our strength,” he told businessline on the sidelines of the national launch of the new Yezdi motorcycle range in Kochi. The company has unveiled three purpose-built motorcycles - Yellow Falcon Adventure, Green Mamba Roadster and Grey Panther Scrambler priced in the range between ₹2,06,969 to ₹2,33,969.Asked why Kerala was chosen for the national launch, Thareja said the State’s deep-rooted motorcycling culture and enduring affinity for the Yezdi brand made it an ideal choice. “Kerala’s relationship with motorcycles is unique. Riders here regularly explore diverse terrains—from beaches and mountains to forests and plantations—which makes the State a vibrant motorcycling destination,” he said.“In the good old days, Yezdi was the largest-selling bike in Kerala,” he said. The launch has also been timed to coincide with the onset of the Onam festival season.Yezdi motorcycles, re-launched in 2023, have emerged as one of the fastest-growing brands in the 350 cc-and-above segments, helping the company’s sales double. “We will cross a 10 per cent market share in our segment as the brand is very close to people’s hearts,” Thareja said.India’s motorcycle market is estimated at 25 million units, excluding electric vehicles. Of this, the 350 cc-and-above segment accounts for around 1.5 million units and has been one of the fastest-growing categories. The segment is expected to grow by 10-15 per cent in the coming years amid rising demand, he said.Classic Legends operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Pithampur near Indore with an installed capacity of 500,000 motorcycles annually. Current production stands at around 100,000 units and can be scaled up substantially to meet future demand. The company is also aggressively expanding its retail footprint. It plans to increase its dealer network from the present 350 touch points to 700 nationwide by FY28. The number is expected to reach 500 by Diwali this year.
