ABUJA— THE National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, yesterday, reassured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to mopping up illegal weapons across the country as part of efforts to secure lives and property.

He said this during the public destruction of 2,819 illicit, decommissioned and unserviceable small arms and light weapons at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri in Abuja,.

The exercise was conducted by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

With this, the Centre has now destroyed 19,000 weapons since it started operations.

Ribadu, who was represented by the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, said illegal arms are the lifeline of terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal groups.
