The equity investment was executed by Sanmar through one of its group entities and following this transaction, Sanmar holds around 43 per cent equity stake in Aham Housing Finance.Aham Housing Finance plans to use the funds to deepen its presence in existing geographies, enter select new markets, and continue investing in technology, underwriting and risk-management capabilities to better serve self-employed and first-time homebuyers.Existing investors, including Negen Capital, which was among the company’s early institutional backers, continue to remain associated with the company.Vijay Sankar, Chairman, The Sanmar Group, told businessline that they wanted to participate in the growth journey of fast-growing segments that also satisfy societal needs. “Aham helps the society become homeowners and that is the rationale behind this investment,” he said. This is the first time Sanmar has made such an investment and he calls it “long-term patient capital.”“It is a good team, they are very conservative, are good risk managers and very importantly there is a strong cultural alignment, transparency, and professionalism,” Sankar said.
