LYTHAM ST ANNES, England — Adam Woodward, the long-time caddie of World No. 7 Charley Hull, said he took her now-viral prank on him in good jest.It was during one of the practice days ahead of this week’s AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes when Hull pranked Woodward by giving him a fake lottery scratch-off ticket she had bought in Blackpool, a nearby seaside resort. It tricked Woodward into thinking he had won £100,000.“I was pretty excited when I first scratched it off. A hundred grand, I thought it was legitimate, obviously,” Woodward said after Hull’s opening round of 69. “I had no idea there were fake scratch cards, but apparently they’re over here. I was unaware of that, so I scratched it off. First panel, nothing. Second panel, nothing. I actually joked and said, “Oh, I’ve actually won 500!” jokingly. And then I was like, no, sorry, I haven’t.“Then the last panel. Scratch, scratch, scratch. You are meant to match up a money bag. If you get the money bag, then you get a prize. I’ve got the money bags and I’m like, ‘we’re gonna get something there.’ And off comes £100,000 and I’m like, ‘what the hell?’ I was like, ‘this can’t be right. This is crazy.’ Yeah, but I totally fell for it. I mean, I wish I said I was acting, but I wasn’t.”Hull, who overcame first tee nerves to hit six birdies and get back to the clubhouse at 2-under-par, found the prank hilarious and told the media about it Tuesday during her pre-tournament news conference. The 30-year-old, who has resumed her search for a long-awaited first major win with a solid start, later posted the video of tricking Woodward to her social media.
