The Football Association (FA) has introduced tougher disciplinary measures that will see players, managers and club officials face a minimum 10-match suspension if found guilty of discriminatory conduct.
The enhanced sanctions, announced on Thursday, are part of the FA’s renewed efforts to eliminate discrimination from English football and will apply across all levels of the game.
Tougher sanctions to tackle discrimination
Previously, aggravated breaches involving discriminatory behaviour typically attracted suspensions ranging from six to 12 matches.
Under the updated guidelines, however, Regulatory Commissions will now be required to impose a standard suspension of at least 10 matches for offences involving explicit or implicit references to a person’s ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, religion, sex, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation or disability.
