A 1.35-km-long, six-lane bidirectional underpass will be constructed at the busy intersection near the Millennium City Centre Metro Station at a cost of ₹55.46 crore.The project is expected to ease congestion at the junction of Sectors 27, 29, 43 and 44, improve connectivity to the Southern Peripheral Road, and reduce travel time. It is scheduled for completion within 18 months.P.C. Meena, Chief Executive Officer of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), said the project had been designed to streamline traffic movement by separating through traffic from local traffic at the junction.The underpass will have three lanes in each direction. A parallel six-lane at-grade carriageway will also be developed to facilitate local traffic movement.Mr. Meena said the project would enhance the carrying capacity of the corridor, reduce travel time, and provide a safer commuting experience for road users travelling between the metro station and the Southern Peripheral Road corridor.Two rainwater harvesting structures will be developed along the corridor to aid groundwater recharge and improve storm water management, helping mitigate waterlogging in the area.Solar panels will be installed to meet the electricity requirements of the underpass, making its operations energy-efficient.
