More than 750 migrants have reached Britain in one day - setting a new record for this year - just hours after Andy Burnham claimed Labour's plan to stop small boats 'is working'.Official Home Office figures showed there were 752 arrivals on Wednesday, smashing the previous high of 710 set in June. There was also tragedy on the Channel overnight as four migrants died attempting to reach Britain.Three women and a man lost their lives in separate incidents on the French side of the strait.In the wake of the tragedies, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp blasted the Government's approach and said each death had been 'preventable'.'Illegal Channel crossings are extremely dangerous and put lives at risk,' he said.'Every one of these tragic deaths was preventable.'The only way to save lives is to stop the crossings completely.'And the only way we can stop the crossings is by having a proper deterrent.'If people know they can stay in the UK, get put up in a hotel and claim benefits then they will keep risking these dangerous journeys.'Instead, if they know they will be quickly removed then they will not cross in the first place.
