It was announced earlier this year that a deal had been made to bring the show back to screens for the first time in 16 years.‌All four main stars, Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) are expected to reprise their roles. However, the return of Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe, is yet to be confirmed.‌However, because bosses are rehiring actors rather than recasting the roles, if Emily returns, all the original stars will be participating in the third movie. The script for the movie has already been written, and producers are raring to go – they are just waiting on Emily to sign on the dotted line.‌"The creators of the show have written the script and are ready to roll," a source told The Sun. They added: "Emily is one of the missing pieces in the project they're keen to get in place."Fans will already be delighted that the four main leads are returning, as there was concern that a reboot might see new, younger actors cast in the roles of the lads, who were all supposed to be teenagers in the show.‌"But it's fair to say getting Emily back would be the cherry on the Inbetweeners cake." While Emily is yet to sign up, bosses are facing another hurdle – aligning the schedule of the main actors.All four have been incredibly busy in recent months, with acting work and podcasts, but sources say they are delighted to have been asked to return to their roles. Meanwhile, Emily has been busy working on Disney's Rivals.‌She's also working on a new legal drama, Reputation, for BBC One, and is waiting to hear whether ITV will recommission a second series of Nobody's Fool, alongside Danny Dyer.Last year, Distributor Banijay UK and production company Fudge Park Productions, the latter which was founded by the show's creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, made an agreement that "paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title".Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Joe Thomas said at the time: "I can't really say anything more than what's already been put out there, which is basically that a deal has been struck between Fudge Park and Banijay, which means that it's now possible to do more.‌"I haven't seen anything from them about what that might be, so I'm sort of, to a certain extent, waiting to hear as well." In a statement, creators Morris and Beesley said: "Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."Before this, fans were left convinced something was brewing when Joe and James, who played Jay, shared a cryptic post on Instagram that got fans' tongues wagging about a possible reunion. While the pair did not give anything away, James captioned the post: "Working on something..." One fan asked: "Inbetweeners 3?" whilst another listed their wishes should a reunion come about.One fan said: "We need an Inbetweeners reunion. Set 10/15 years later. Jay gets married, and carnage ensues.
