The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister had held a telephone conversation with Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, the Bulgarian ministry noted that Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova, during her call with Abbas Araghchi, “emphasized Sofia’s commitment to maintaining good relations with Tehran and continuing bilateral dialogue.”

Petrova informed Araghchi that her parliament’s decision regarding the deployment of US tanker aircraft was in line with “Bulgaria’s commitments within the framework of bilateral strategic cooperation,” rather than representing “a shift in Bulgaria’s stance toward Iran.”

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister clarified that “Bulgarian territory will not be utilized for direct military operations associated with the Middle East conflict.”
