Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is launching a new program called “Freedom Haulers,” designed to get veterans behind the wheel by expanding driving job opportunities.“This isn’t a desk job–it requires the precision, independence, and level-headed mindset that you forged in the military. We want veterans to take the wheel of big rigs and secure the economic supply lines of the country you swore to defend,” the Freedom Haulers website says. Duffy shared the program on X on Thursday. “ILLEGALS OUT, VETERANS IN,” the post’s caption said, seemingly teasing a past post by Duffy that showed a Spanish-speaking driver who did not pass safety protocols.
“Our new campaign, FREEDOM HAULERS, is reclaiming America’s highways and putting Vets in the driver’s seat,” the post said. The program builds on the Trump administration’s crackdown on unvetted truckers.President Donald Trump will be speaking more on the Freedom Haulers campaign at 1:30 p.m. on July 30. His administration wants service members to consider becoming truck drivers when they leave the military to help replace the tens of thousands of immigrant drivers who lost their licenses in a crackdown this year.
The post lists benefits such as six-figure salaries, flexible schedules, medical benefits, covered training costs, and sign-on bonuses. Duffy added a video to the post as well, which showed a desk job compared to a trucking job: “You belong behind a different kind of horsepower, one that still serves your country, one that you’ve already trained for.”The website also said training is 100% funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs. A “Launch Your Journey” section of the webpage helps veterans navigate their best path forward based on their experience, either as a military vehicle operator or a general service member.
