Heavy rains that lashed the coal belt in Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts disrupted coal excavation operations at five opencast projects (OCPs) of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for the second consecutive day on Thursday.Coal extraction and overburden removal operations were affected at the OCPs in Mandamarri, Bellampalli and Srirampur areas, resulting in a production loss of around 40,000 tonnes over the last two days, SCCL sources said.Shovels, dumpers and other heavy machinery remained idle in their respective yards due to slushy conditions caused by incessant rainfall. SCCL officials deployed heavy-duty pumps to drain stagnant rainwater and facilitate the resumption of mining operations once the rains recede. Despite the disruption to mining operations in OCPs, arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted coal supplies from the coal yards to the State’s power-generating stations, including the SCCL’s Thermal Power Station at Jaipur in Mancherial district, the sources said.
