Telangana government is in the process of introducing a set of Artificial Intelligence driven facets into its famed TG-iPASS industrial clearance process that in the more than 10 years of existence has played an instrumental role, not only in attracting several investments into the State but also to serve as a role model for others.Deployment of AI-enabled capabilities to support smarter workflows, predictive insights, and enhanced investor facilitation as well as decision support are set to be the highlight of the key enhancements proposed under TG-iPASS 2.0.An intent to invest module will also be added, essentially to enable prospective investors to formally register their preliminary intent to invest, allowing early engagement with the State well before the commencement of the formal approval and clearance process. In doing so, the government seeks to go beyond the usual handholding once the project is announced. The intent is to invest in the engagement early on and increase the chances of bagging as well as facilitate the grounding of the project.As a measure to smoothen the process for those who have decided to invest, especially in terms of providing approvals, the State government as part of TG-iPASS 2.0 is mulling a comprehensive end-to-end inspection module. Elaborating on the proposal, sources said that this was to enable digital conduct and reporting of inspections, including validation of inspections and online submission of inspection reports with photographs, videos, and digital signatures of inspecting officers, supported by automated reminders.Publication of pre-defined inspection checklists for each applicable service or clearance to ensure standardisation and transparency; display on the Single Window System (SWS) of recognised third-party inspectors, with facilities for inspection report uploads and allocation of inspections to departmental officers or authorised third parties are proposed to be introduced in the TG-iPASS 2.0.The Congress government had been hinting at TG-iPASS 2.0 and the AI driven reforms under consideration to the landmark system that the previous BRS regime had introduced as TS-iPASS. The original objective was to ensure time bound approval, failing which deemed approval, for industrial projects.Other proposals, as part of the enhancement, under the consideration of the Revanth Reddy-led government include permitting single PAN for managing multiple units. Explaining the logic, sources said provision for a single PAN-based registration for entities operating multiple units across the State will eliminate duplicate registrations and enable seamless service delivery, system integration, and lifecycle tracking under the SWS.User interface and experience upgrades aligned with national standards, aimed at improving usability, accessibility, and overall investor experience or in short UI/UX enhancements are also on the cards, sources said.The enhancements to TG-iPASS assume significance as the State government seemed to have moved away from publicising the system and at one point cited how it was oriented more towards large industrial projects. Going a step forward it had also introduced an elaborate MSME Policy asserting it would bridge the gap.In June 2025, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu had announced the plans of Telangana government to incorporate AI tools. The AI integration is to enhance transparency and speed in clearances, he said.Telangana government statistics show that as many as 27,592 projects involving an investment of ₹3,02,330.96 crore were approved under TG-iPASS from the time of launch in 2014-15. Out of them, 24,920 are in the manufacturing sector and the remaining 2,667 in the services sector. More than 1.89 lakh jobs are to be generated by the approved projects, he said.
