The Udupi District Congress Committee (UDCC) announced that it will organise a protest near the Jatka Stand at 10 am on Friday, to condemn the objectionable remarks allegedly made by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna against Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.Addressing presspersons in Udupi on Thursday, UDCC president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor said the objectionable language used by Mr. Suvarna during the BJP protest in Udupi on Tuesday was condemnable. Public representatives should behave responsibly, he said, adding that the Congress will hold the protest to protect democratic values and maintain polite politics.Youth Congress workers detainedMeanwhile, police detained Indian Youth Congress workers who tried to lay seige to the MLA’s office in Udupi on Thursday to protest Mr. Suvarna’s alleged remarks against Mr. Gandhi.Earlier, the Youth Congress had announced that it would go to the MLA’s office to protest the remarks made by Mr. Suvarna.Police had tightened security around the MLA’s office in the city. After learning about the planned protest, BJP workers also gathered near the MLA’s office and residence, leading to tense moments for some time.The Youth Congress workers who reached near the office raised slogans against the MLA and protested. Later, on the instructions of Congress leaders, they backed down from their plan.
