The Board of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology has announced the appointment of professors at EPFL. Among them are two scientists at the School of Basic Sciences, Dr Tomas Aidukas and Dr Christophe Galland.© 2026 EPFLDr Tomas Aidukas, formerly a postdoctoral researcher at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), as Assistant Professor of Physics in the School of Basic Sciences (SB) Tomas Aidukas is a specialist in computational imaging, particularly in the development and application of ptychographic techniques. His research aims to push the physical and computational limits of microscopy, with applications in high-resolution optical and X-ray imaging. Among his major achievements is the attainment of world-record 3D resolution in X-ray microscopy, through ptychographic tomography. Tomas Aidukas joins EPFL with the highly competitive SNSF Starting Grant, for the project NEXUS-3D (Nanoscale Examination of Ultra-Small Structures in 3D Using X-rays), dedicated to the development of advanced X-ray microscopy methods and their application to semiconductor metrology. The project will be carried out in partnership with PSI.© 2026 EPFLDr Christophe Galland, currently Lecturer at EPFL, as Adjunct Professor in the School of Basic Sciences (SB) Christophe Galland is an internationally recognized expert in quantum optics, nanophotonics and ultrafast molecular spectroscopy. His pioneering work on the quantum control of mechanical and molecular vibrations has contributed to the emergence of a new subfield of molecular optomechanics. Christophe Galland will continue to help shape the next generation of physicists through his teaching, while pursuing his ambitious research program in quantum technologies and advanced spectroscopy. His appointment as Adjunct Professor will further strengthen EPFL’s reputation for excellence in a strategic field undergoing rapid growth.
