Sun Pharmaceutical Industries has received approval from the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency – ANVISA, to manufacture and market semaglutide injection in Brazil for the treatment of adults with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus, the drugmaker said.This would be Sun Pharma’s second international approval for semaglutide – earlier this month, it had received approvals in South Africa on the product. The development comes even Dr Reddy’s Laboratories recently hit a stumbling block for exports – the company had said its supplies to Canada would be delayed following an “out of specification” issue with certain batches that the company wanted to address. Injectable penSun Pharma plans to launch the product in the next few days in partnership with Hypera Pharma, a pharmaceutical company in Brazil. It will be available as a pre-filled, multi-dose injectable pen in two strengths (2 mg/1.5 mL and 4 mg/3 mL) allowing flexible, once-weekly dosing, Sun Pharma said.The approval of semaglutide in Brazil reflects the strength of the company’s development and manufacturing capabilities, said Aalok Shanghvi, Chief Operating Officer, Sun Pharma.
