Former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming has been confirmed as the head coach of England’s men’s test side.
The 53-year-old succeeds former teammate Brendon McCullum in charge of the red ball side, albeit with the pair splitting the head coach role across formats.
As first , Fleming has signed a four-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and will officially take charge away in South Africa later this year.
The 53-year-old has been out of work since leaving Indian Premier League franchise the Chennai Super Kings – and its associated sister sides in Johannesburg and Texas – earlier this month, coincidentally on the same day McCullum was sacked as England test coach.
Fleming’s appointment comes with Joe Root also confirmed to return to the role of test captain, following Ben Stokes’ international retirement during England’s 2-1 series loss to the Black Caps.
