Media outlets reported an explosion at the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Egypt’s Damietta Port during cargo offloading. Concurrently, maritime security firm Ambrey and security sources confirmed that a drone struck a U.S.-owned gas storage vessel, causing a fire that spread to two ships. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to reports, the explosion occurred while cargo was being discharged at the Damietta Port LNG terminal.
Maritime security firm Ambrey stated that a drone struck a U.S.-owned floating gas storage unit (FSU). According to the firm, the impact triggered a fire that subsequently spread to a second vessel.
In a separate report, Inchcape Shipping Services also stated that two gas-carrying vessels caught fire at Damietta Port.
Ambrey confirmed that the crews of both vessels were evacuated and that the fire was brought under control. The firm added that no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
