July 30 (UPI) -- Republican senators have postponed a vote on Todd Blanche's nomination as attorney general amid concerns from two GOP senators over his handling of President Donald Trump's IRS settlement, including its proposed so-called anti-weaponization fund.
The Senate Committee on the Judiciary was scheduled to vote on advancing Blanche's nomination on Thursday morning, but a note on its website states it has been "postponed." No new date has been announced.
The stalemate is the product of a dispute over a mid-May settlement agreement between the Internal Revenue Service and Trump and his two oldest sons. The Trumps had sued the IRS for $10 billion in damages over the actions of of a former contractors, since convicted and imprisoned, who leaked Trump's tax returns for 2019 and 2020 to news organizations.
The Trumps dropped the lawsuit after reaching a settlement with the IRS that halted certain IRS audits involving Trump, his two sons and the Trump Organization. It also sought to create a $1.776 billion fund to compensate people claiming they were victims of political weaponization by the Justice Department, making people convicted of offenses related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack eligible for payments.
