Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt has admitted that the club’s preparations for the new Betway Premiership season have been complicated by ongoing stadium challenges, with the Western Cape side forced to begin their campaign away from home.
Stellies were scheduled to host AmaZulu in their opening fixture of the 2026/27 season, but a shortage of available venues has resulted in the match being moved to Durban.
The club’s usual home ground, Danie Craven Stadium, is unavailable after being reserved for an international rugby tournament, while Athlone Stadium is occupied by New Zealand’s All Blacks as they prepare for their Test against South Africa.
DHL Stadium was also not a viable option, with the Cape Town venue set to host the Currie Cup clash between the DHL Stormers and Sharks.
