Polish authorities are investigating the discovery of a crater in the eastern Lublin Voivodeship after an air raid alert was triggered during Russia’s latest mass missile and drone attack on Ukraine. Marcin Bubicz, spokesperson for the Lublin Voivodeship governor, told WP Wiadomości that local authorities received “reliable and confirmed” warning information from Poland’s Government Security Center about a potential aerial threat. Before the alert was issued, the Polish military scrambled fighter jets and deployed an airborne early warning aircraft to monitor the situation as Russian long-range bombers carried out strikes against Ukraine. Ground-based air defense systems and radar units were also placed on heightened readiness, Poland’s military said. During the alert, residents in the Lublin region reported hearing explosions. Shortly afterward, emergency services discovered a crater in a field near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia. Officials believe it may have been caused by the impact of an unidentified object, though its origin has not been established.
