One of the more bizarre stats from the opening portion of the MLS season was that Son Heung-min hadn’t scored a single league goal. A world-renown star who scored nine goals in his first 10 games after joining LAFC last summer still led the league in assists but hadn’t managed to find his scoring form.Coming out of a disappointing World Cup for South Korea, Son has flipped the switch and then some.On the heels of three straight league games with a goal, Son was the brightest MLS All-Star of them all, scoring a pair in a 4-3 win over Liga MX’s All-Stars Wednesday night in Charlotte and taking home match MVP honors in the process. He’s the second Korean player to win MLS All-Star MVP and the first since Park Ji-sung did it in 2011, when MLS’s best took on Manchester United in New Jersey.

MLS has now won four of the five meetings between the two leagues in an exhibition whose format has changed many times throughout the years but has settled more frequently on this setup.
