This is one of the largest solar-plus-battery storage corporate PPA ever signed from a single plant in the U.S., and it will be served by the largest renewable plant in ContourGlobal’s portfolio.

Project Sterling is a hybrid solar PV + BESS project in Arizona. With more than 1.4 GWh of storage capacity (360 MW/ 4 hours), and 450 MWac of solar PV, the plant will deliver 1,000 GWh/ year (1 TWh per year) of renewable energy to Tesla via a long-term PPA with bundled electricity and RECs.

Substantial construction of the project initiated in 2025 through off-site physical work of significant nature; on-site groundbreaking is planned for 2026 and COD for 2028.

ContourGlobal today announced the execution of a large-scale, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tesla for Project Sterling, a landmark hybrid solar and battery energy storage project located in Arizona’s WAPA region, with firm transmission rights into California’s CAISO market. The agreement with Tesla covers ~1 TWh per year, representing around 90% of the project’s as-generated annual output, and will provide long-term renewable energy.
