ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Texas Rangers on Wednesday acquired Chase Silseth, a right-handed relief pitcher, and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels announced the trade, which came days ahead of Monday’s MLB trade deadline.O’Hoppe was once viewed as a potential franchise cornerstone for the Angels, but the 26-year-old has struggled this season. In 75 games, O’Hoppe was hitting .209 with four home runs and a .566 OPS. The Rangers on Wednesday night optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock. The Angels, meanwhile, activated catcher Travis d’Arnaud, who had on the 60-day injured list with right foot plantar fasciitis.“I thought the best thing for him was going to be a change of scenery,” John Mozeliak, the Angels’ interim GM, said of O’Hoppe. “When you think about catchers, you think about two things. The ability to catch and throw and call a game. The opposite side of that would be the offensive skill set. And he was really struggling, putting a lot of pressure on both sides of the ball. I think that’s really tough to balance. In the end, trying to get him playing time for us was difficult.”
Silseth, 26, has emerged as a key reliever in 2026, recording a 2.72 ERA, 48 strikeouts and 22 walks in 39 2/3 innings.Texas sent 19-year-old Angel Arredondo, who was signed for $300,000 by the Rangers in 2024, to the Angels in the deal. The Mexico native has spent the year in Low A, batting .243 with eight home runs and a .763 OPS in 85 games. He has mostly played third base and filled in at shortstop.“As we enter this trading period, one of the things we are focused on is understanding change,” Mozeliak said. “Clearly where the Angels are at right now, we need to do some things differently.
