July 29 (Asia Today) -- More than 120,000 babies were born in South Korea during the first five months of the year, marking the highest total for the period in seven years, government data showed Wednesday.
The number of births in May reached 23,160, up 2,781, or 13.6%, from a year earlier, according to population data released by the Ministry of Data and Statistics.
Births have increased for 23 consecutive months since July 2024.
The May total was the highest for the month since 25,299 babies were born in May 2019.
