Antihistamines have long been used to address itch and sleep disturbances with atopic dermatitis, although clinical practice guidelines have been mixed regarding their utility.A large network meta-analysis found no clinically meaningful benefit from any antihistamines in reducing atopic dermatitis severity or itch severity and a risk of harm from first generation agents.The researchers concluded that antihistamines should not be routinely used in atopic dermatitis.
Antihistamines hold only a slight benefit for atopic dermatitis (eczema) and shouldn't be routinely used in management, a network meta-analysis concluded.
