OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney is pouring cold water on the idea of throttling oil exports to the United States as the trade war with Donald Trump drags on and his government stares down the imposition of a new round of steep American tariffs.
Carney’s reluctance to use U.S. reliance on Canadian energy as leverage in pursuit of a deal comes as opposition parties accuse him of caving to the Trump administration by sharing revenues from the Ottawa-financed Gordie Howe International Bridge and removing requirements for big American streaming companies to put money into funds for Canadian content.
