Jason Miller / Getty ImagesJuly 29, 2026 Updated 1:54 pm EDTThe Cleveland Browns and safety Grant Delpit have agreed on a three-year, $48 million contract extension to keep one of the team’s best players and strongest leaders with the organization amid its ongoing roster rebuild, according to a league source. The deal includes $35 million guaranteed.Delpit, who turns 28 in September, was previously signed only through 2026. But 2025 was Delpit’s best season, and though the Browns are making their last two draft classes the focal point of their roster, the new deal will keep Delpit with the team that made him a second-round pick in 2020, Andrew Berry’s first draft as Cleveland’s general manager. The Browns previously extended Delpit late in the 2023 season.Delpit has seven career interceptions, three forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks. He’s made impact plays both as a deep safety and as an aggressive tackler who can line up near the line of scrimmage in some personnel groupings. He will enter this season as the Browns’ second-longest tenured player after six more experienced players were either traded or had their contracts expire since the 2025 season.In June, the Browns traded two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for a package that included three future draft picks and 25-year-old defensive end Jared Verse.But the team is choosing to keep Delpit, who in 2025 was the team’s nominee for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award for his work on the field and in the community. Delpit took on a larger leadership role last season for what was one of the NFL’s most disruptive defensive units. The Browns also signed Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward to a two-year extension on Tuesday, per a team source.For now, the safety group under new defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg is led by Delpit, returning starter Ronnie Hickman and 2026 second-round pick Emmanuel McNeil-Warren.
