The car festival of Sundararaja Perumal Temple at Alagarkoil in Madurai district was held on Wednesday as part of the ‘Adi’ celebrations, which commenced with the hoisting of the holy flag.Thousands of devotees pulled the temple car. Lord Sundararaja Perumal was taken out on a procession. Devotees who had gathered in large numbers sought the blessings of the deity.To ensure the safety of the devotees, a large number of police personnel were deployed, CCTV cameras were installed and basic amenities, including drinking water and medical facilities were arranged for the devotees.Large LED screens were also installed for the devotees to witness the procession. Special buses were operated for the convenience of the devotees. The ‘Adi’ festival will conclude with ‘Theerthavari’ ceremony. Published - July 29, 2026 10:44 pm IST
