Shane McRae is the latest addition to the upcoming AMC drama series “Thunder Road,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The series, which is produced in a partnership between AMC and NASCAR, is set in the world of stock car racing with Dennis Quaid set for the lead role. It was greenlit at AMC in April with plans to launch it in 2027 on AMC and AMC+.
The logline for the show describes it as a “multi-generational saga of the fictional Whitlock family, whose legacy in stock car racing is as deep as the family’s ties to the southern hill country roots that shaped them.”
Quaid will play racing legend Duane Whitlock, while McRae will appear in the series regular role of Scooter Jakes. Scooter is said to be “whip-lean, weathered, and predator-calm. Scooter Jakes is a veteran of the NASCAR circuit. He’s a cornerstone of Whitlock Racing Team as crew chief to Trey in the legendary #28 car — and as one of the only people Duane (Quaid) wants alongside him at crunch time.”
Along with Quaid and McRae, the cast currently includes Michael Rooker, Maggie Grace, Matt Barr, West Duchovny, Chase Stokes, and Devon Allman.
