The Ukrainian body confirmed its action on Wednesday, stating that the IOC's decision on 7 July was premature and made without proper verification that the violations leading to the ROC's initial suspension had been resolved. The ROC was originally suspended in October 2023 after it recognised regional Olympic councils in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The NOC of Ukraine highlighted a 2024 CAS ruling that confirmed the legality of the ROC's suspension, recognising that including sports organisations from temporarily occupied territories violates Ukraine's territorial integrity and the Olympic Charter. Ukraine argues that reinstating the ROC's rights without effectively addressing these violations is incompatible with international sports law and sets a dangerous precedent for the entire Olympic Movement.
