Former legal advisor to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Advocate Yvonne Mabule, has provided her personal insight into the agency's involvement in TRC-related discussions.
Former legal advisor at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and member of the Amnesty Task Team, Advocate Yvonne Mabule, has revealed that the NIA's participation in the TRC cases was led by her former Director-General at the NIA, Vusi Mavimbela.
During her evidence before the TRC Cases Inquiry on Wednesday, Mabule detailed her only experience attending a TRC-related meeting at the request of Mavimbela, who could not attend this particular meeting at the time.
Mabule, who appeared as a witness rather than an implicated person, explained that as a legal advisor, she had no role to play in any TRC-related matter, saying that for the only meeting she was requested to attend, she did not get any specific brief from her superior, Mavimbela.
"I was requested by the then-director general, Mr Mavimbela, to represent him on short notice at a meeting of heads of department for the security clusters. I proceeded there and arrived towards the completion of the meeting. It was just 15 minutes before the meeting could end," she stated.
