The intersection of AI and cybersecurity is evolving at a breakneck pace. The introduction of Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, an agentic model that autonomously discovered exploits for thousands of flaws that had survived decades of human review, sparked immediate alarm and industry speculation.
The regulatory back-and-forth and shifting restrictions surrounding its release underscore the gravity of this technology. And while concern over a capability like this is understandable, a much larger and older threat is hiding in plain sight: human nature.
People have always been the preferred target for threat actors for a simple reason: It is far cheaper to dupe a human than to defeat a hardened network.
Think of the adversary as a business. When the cost of a failed attempt approaches zero and a single success can pay out into seven figures, the success rate almost stops mattering. An attacker can be wrong 99 times out of 100 and still run a highly profitable operation.
