To stop losing money when foreign trade partners reject Nigerian food exports, the federal government has formed a new oversight committee for the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (a food regulatory agency) on July 28, 2026.
This plan aims to make food safety rules stronger, speed up official work, and help Nigeria sell more non-oil products to markets around the world.
Strengthening quarantine frameworks and biosecurity
This new group brings together representatives from key government offices, such as the Ministries of Planning, Agriculture, Finance, and Trade, along with the Budget Office and Customs.
Their job is to check food testing labs, fix slow processes, find steady funding, and remove rules that slow down food trade.
