The Repair Shop's Dominic Chinea has spoken about how he and his fellow experts get affected by the items they get given to fix and how they respond to that14:51, 29 Jul 2026The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea has given some detail about what his co-stars really think about working on the renowned show.‌Dominic, who has been on the BBC programme for many years, has opened up about how he and his co-stars feel about the things they restore after nearly a decade on the show.‌Speaking to the Telegraph about what they do after filming The Repair Shop, but before the show is broadcast, Dominic said they couldn’t help but not get emotionally attached to things they were fixing.‌He said that it was “impossible not to get caught up in the emotion” given just how much they mean to the people they’re helping, adding that the show’s experts sometimes become “attached” to those items.However, because the items are someone else’s they’re not allowed to give them back. So, Dominic said, what they do instead is they go and buy their own versions before the shows go out.‌Giving an example of a sewing machine, he said: “We were so in love with a Wilcox & Gibbs sewing machine somebody brought on to the show that four of us went off and got our own.“We know we have to do that before the episode airs, because the prices shoot up on eBay as soon as people see the things on TV!”This isn’t the first time Dominic has spoken about life on The Repair Shop. Earlier this year, in an admission made on his YouTube channel, he admitted that filming commitments had prevented him from cracking on with other projects.‌Commenting on the state of his garage, he said he hoped to be able to use it after film obligations stopped.He said: "I can't wait to get stuck into some projects now in the workshop. Life is going to be a lot easier. All the windows are in, the roller shutters are in, the roof is bolted down, not leaking as badly, and I've got my nice flat concrete floor, and now a beautiful new two post lift.‌"The only issue is I'm now in Chichester where it's starting to film Repair Shop tomorrow, but I do kind of wish I was there able to use that new lift, but that's going to have to wait until next week."Dominic, currently based in Cornwall, juggles his work with The Repair Shop, with his own workshop in the county. As recently as June he has kept fans updated on the state of it and the challenges he faces.Following a storm he admitted to fans how tough going life was at that moment. He said: “The storm has caused a lot of damage, the workshop roof, various tiles and bits and bobs.Article continues below“I'm doing my best to deal with those, I've ordered more roof sheets and I've lined up roofers to try and fix the roof, but I'm also juggling trying to finish this kitchen."Catch The Repair Shop tonight (Wednesday, July 29) from 8pm to 9pm on BBC One.
